Traditional pumps use separate couplings, the close-coupled type of centrifugal pumps instead use an impeller (a rotating mechanism that moves liquid through the pump) this part the central element of the whole motor component. They come built inside the casing.
Close centrifugal pumps are useful in many industries. Although, these type of pumps use simple seals where certain liquids can’t be used due to their temperature or corrosive nature. To some this may seem like a disadvantage, but some benefit from the use of simple seals in centrifugal pumps.
Frame-mounted centrifugal pumps are mounted to a frame in order to keep motor or couplings in place. When centrifugal pumps are mounted they are more durable than ones that aren’t. The reduction in excessive movement lessens the risk of a pump failing.
Transferring liquid from one point to another is the main function of centrifugal pumps. Water pumping, petroleum pumping, sewage pumping and petrochemical pumping are the most common uses of centrifugal pumps.
